Ethnography: History of Basketball

History of Basketball about the Basketball was first opened in 1891, he was invented basketball as an indoor sport. He also developed the game as an activity for his students during the rough winter months. He was director of physical education at the Young Men's Christian Association YMCA in Denver 1895-1898.  A teacher named James Naismith who works at the physical education, as the inventor of the sport of basketball. He was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada, and educated at McGill University and Presbyterian College in MontrĂ©al. He taught physical education from 1887 to 1890 at McGill University, and then at the Young Men's Christian Association Training School Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was one who is the most significant to the sport of basketball, Naismith was voted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959. Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, he was named in his honor and it is located in Springfield.

For an ethnography, Josh, you need to go observe some group of people related to your theme, so for sports, you would go to some sort of game or practice, or a fitness club of some sort, or something like a sports bar, where you could observe sports fans. This is not a traditional research paper where you look up information, but instead where you go out and observe. You can also do a profile of someone who's connected to sports (but not by researchng them online). Instead you'd need to interview them and follow them around to see what their life is like, as Susan Orlean did for that ten-year-old boy). The third option is to look at some sort of online group, where people set up pages or blogs or contribute to discussion boards.

    Let's talk about this in class on Monday. I'm sorry I didn't read this and talk to you sooner about it--You can have extra time to finish another rough draft if you need it.
