[Byliner] On the Trail to the White Horse


This is the story of Caballo Blanco.  One day Blanco set off to run 12 miles but didn’t return home.  No one knew what happened to him so his friend Christopher McDougall went to look for him.  But this was not the first time that Blanco had gotten lost but he said he loved it.  He got to climb hills and mountains and enjoyed himself.  Hi friend went looking for him and calling his name hoping his friend would hear him.  They followed where he ran but still could not find him.  McDougall knew he could not find him alone so he got others to help out.  Unfortunately when they did find Caballo Blanco, he had died.  They are not sure what happened only that they think he fell but he lives on in his friends and how he taught them to love to run.

[Byliner] Ultimate Fighting


Ultimate fighting is often called martial arts.  It has become a great sport in America.  Many people are watching it especially in Las Vegas.  One fight had a crowd of 9,000 people for the Ultimate Fighting Championship.  One of the best fighters is Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit.  Ultimate fighting is a brutal sport.  They can punch and kick just about anywhere on the body.  No one knows why it is such a fast growing sport and watched by millions. 

[Byliner] Ego (The Ali vs. Frazier Fight)


Muhammad Ali has one of the biggest egos around.  Ali likes to be the center of attention and yells at people so they know he is there.  Especially when he is in the boxing ring, he will yell at the other guy to scare them.  Mailer talks about how Ali’s ego gets in the way of him being liked and respected by some.   Many people try to understand him and what he talks about.   Muhammad Ali will always be known as America’s Greatest Ego.

[Byliner] Ashley Fiolek: Hear Me Roar


Ashley Fiolek is part of the Women’s Motocross Association (WMA).   Unlike the other women in motocross, Ashley is Deaf but she is making noise.  Ashley is 18 years old and a five time champion of motocross and is the youngest WMA champion.  She is known worldwide and is admired by all, especially by some of the men’s motocross riders and champions.  They are impressed with her talent to ride.

Ethnography: History of Basketball

History of Basketball about the Basketball was first opened in 1891, he was invented basketball as an indoor sport. He also developed the game as an activity for his students during the rough winter months. He was director of physical education at the Young Men's Christian Association YMCA in Denver 1895-1898.  A teacher named James Naismith who works at the physical education, as the inventor of the sport of basketball. He was born in Almonte, Ontario, Canada, and educated at McGill University and Presbyterian College in MontrĂ©al. He taught physical education from 1887 to 1890 at McGill University, and then at the Young Men's Christian Association Training School Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was one who is the most significant to the sport of basketball, Naismith was voted to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1959. Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame, he was named in his honor and it is located in Springfield.

Dreaming of Hoops

The NBA lockout last October 12, 2011 because of the economy.  It been no game for three months and missed 68 games. So, the boys decided to go to the basketball league and travel different states to against other game. It keeps them on the body shape and also skills. The January started open the NBA. The reason why they did not play was because of money. The players wanted more but the owners did not want to give it. Finally they settled.
